Becoming an Active Bystander training

Becoming an Active Bystander training

[on Campus, Room W414]

Overview

To make a cultural change we must be confident to address behaviours, such as bullying, microaggressions, and harassment. As staff we can lead this change by developing our understanding of Active Bystander theory and programmes.

This session will introduce active bystander theory and programmes to develop knowledge and understanding. We will explore and discuss active bystander interventions and techniques and use reality-based scenarios as a way to practice the skills learned. The session is aimed to be discussion based and interactive.

Aim

To develop participants' knowledge and understanding of active bystander theory and intervention and to explore how active bystander theory can be applied and embedded within learning and teaching.

On completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of bystander theory and the efficacy of active bystander programmes
  2. Identify and apply active bystander behaviours/interventions
  3. Explore how bystander theory can be applied to learning and teaching
