What this session covers  

• A quick recap of what HTML is, what the templates are, and where they are found 

• Ways of putting different types of content into Brightspace within these Page templates

• Materials which you would have traditionally uploaded simply as a Word Document, PowerPoint Presentation, or PDF 

What we will do in the session 

• Build a range of content using a range of the templates 

Guidance for the Facilitator 

Beforehand: 

• Ensure that staff are enrolled in the group for this workshop in the Learning Design CPD Workshops module 

Approximate timings: 

1. Welcome (5 mins) 

1. Introductions 

2. Highlight the aims of the session (see above – ‘what this session covers’) 

2. Discussion (5 mins) 

1. What do you understand by ‘HTML’? 

2. Where are the Page templates found? 

3. What is the point of using the templates? 

3. Activity – Using a template to set objectives for a module, or unit 

1. Quickly highlight the template with objectives 

2. Model how to edit it, including the header image 

3. Participants to go away and do the same for their module 

4. Activity – Making a reading list in a Page template 

1. Show the template with the long, thin image down one side 

2. Model copying in parts of a bibliography. Demonstrate how to copy in as plain text 

5. Activity – Converting learning materials to Page templates 

1. The participants should find some of their learning materials that they would traditionally have uploaded as powerpoint slides. We are going to look at ways of breaking this up, adding some narrative, and presenting it using the HTML editor. The main thing here is for the individuals or groups to work on it, overseen by us.
