Emotion regulation workshops: Session 3 (ABC PLEASE)

This series of skills workshops are informed by Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT) and have been designed to introduce strategies and skills to help you cope with very intense emotions at university. DBT is a specially adapted form of talking therapy, designed for people who experience emotions very intensely, for example those with a diagnosis of EUPD or BPD.

The aim of DBT is to help you:

  • Understand and accept your difficult feelings

  • Learn skills to manage these feelings

  • Become able to make positive changes in your life

These sessions will be beneficial to those with an EUPD/BPD diagnosis, but anybody having trouble in understanding or managing their emotions is welcome to attend.

Aims;

Understanding and learning skills to manage difficult feelings, so that you feel able to make positive changes in your life.

By the end of this session you will;

1) Continue to understand the purpose of emotions

2) Reduce emotional vulnerability by understanding how intense emotions can sometimes lead to destructive behaviours

3) Learn strategies to reduce unwanted emotions, focusing on the ‘ABC please’ model for coping with unhelpful emotions
