Introduction to DBT skills workshop (W125)
This series of skills workshops are informed by Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT) and have been designed to introduce strategies and skills to help you cope with very intense emotions. DBT is a specially adapted form of talking therapy, designed for people who experience emotions very intensely, for example those with a diagnosis of EUPD or BPD.
The aim of DBT is to help you:
-
Understand and accept your difficult feelings
-
Learn skills to manage these feelings
-
Become able to make positive changes in your life
These sessions will be beneficial to those with an EUPD/BPD diagnosis, but anybody having trouble in understanding or managing their emotions is welcome to attend.
Aims;
Understanding and learning skills to manage difficult feelings, so that you feel able to make positive changes in your life.
By the end of this session you will;
1) Know what 'DBT' is and begin to understand the impact of emotional decision making in your day to day life
2) Identify what is most important to you - your values - and how this can support your decisions
3) Understand your 'wise mind' - you will be able to explain what we mean by ‘walking the middle path’ and begin relating this to decision making in your own life.
4) Begin practicing core mindfulness skills through a simple mindfulness exercise
